چکیده

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) provides rapid fingerprinting of biomaterial in a non-destructive manner. The adsorption of colloidal silver to biological material suppresses native biofluorescence while increasing the normal Raman signal via the surfaceenhanced Raman effect. This work validates the applicability of qualitative SER spectroscopy, utilizing principal component analysis (PCA) to show discrimination of biological threat simulants, based upon multivariate statistical confidences limits bounding known data clusters. Several strains of Bacillus spores are investigated along with Pantoea agglomerans, and Brucella noetomae.

A Review of Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy on Potential Clinical Applications Towards Diagnosing Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading cancers in the world and early-screening is still the best method of cancer patient survival. However, colonoscopy as the current gold standard is not without flaws and an emerging technique called surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with machine learning is a possible candidate that could be applied in parallel with colonoscopy. This...

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for the discrimination of Arthrobacter strains based on variations in cell surface composition.

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a rapid and highly sensitive spectroscopic technique that has the potential to measure chemical changes in bacterial cell surface in response to environmental changes. The objective of this study was to determine whether SERS had sufficient resolution to differentiate closely related bacteria within a genus grown on solid and liquid medium, and a si...

Validation of a Miniaturized Spectrometer for Trace Detection of Explosives by Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) measurements of some common military explosives were performed with a table-top micro-Raman system integrated with a Serstech R785 miniaturized device, comprising a spectrometer and detector for near-infrared (NIR) laser excitation (785 nm). R785 was tested as the main component of a miniaturized SERS detector, designed for in situ and stand-alone sens...

Detection and Classification of Bacteria using Raman Spectroscopy Combined with Multivariate Analysis

Vibrational spectroscopic techniques have advantages over conventional microbiological approaches towards identification & detection of pathogens. Since unique spectral fingerprint is obtained, one can identify very closely related bacteria using such methods. In this study Raman microspectroscopy in combination with chemometric method has been used to classify four strains of E. coli (two path...
